this cap had stiffeners - a support piece behind the cap device and a wire around the inside top perimeter to maintain the cap's round shape

This is a very interesting Revolutionary War era socket bayonet which had its socket heavily cut down for use as a polearm. There is a small screw in the side of the cut down socket which was meant to affix it to the pole. The 13 blade shows heavy wear and oxidation, and is marked on the ricasso P over an indecipherable letter. We are not sure what this marking indicates. The overall length of the bayonet is 15.
