This is an "battlefield pickup" example of the classic Japanese WWII Tetsubo Helmet, also colloquially called the tetsukabuto ("steel helmet") by troops. After it was picked up, the original liner and chin strap were removed, as was the metal star that would normally be on the front. Then it was field re painted with thick white and red "Rising Sun" design, probably to increase the souvenir value for the soldier who
